Joint forces sealed off the pathological centres of some 15 private clinics and diagnostic centers in Rajshahi city in the last five days. The joint forces raided a total of 49 clinics and diagnostic centers and realised around Tk 12 lakh as forfeiture from all of these healthcare service providers. The sealed off clinics include Dolphin, Mahanagar, Samata and Fatima clinics. The joint forces could not examine Fatima clinic as its authorities fled away closing it sensing the raid. Pathological centres and laboratories of Islami Bank Hospital, Jomjom Hospital, Mukti Clinic, Sharmin Nursing Home, Laser Diagnostic and x-ray section of Zilia Medicare were also sealed off. Commander of the joint forces Lt Col Muhammad Aminul Islam, first class magistrate Jonendranath Sarkar and District Civil Surgeon Dr Golam Mortuza coordinated the raids that began on May 28. The forces checked 20 clinics and 29 diagnostic centers. Among the raided clinics, only The Pathology didn't receive any fines or other actions. "Situations are worse than we expected", said Magistrate Jonendranath Sarkar after conducting the raids. Some raiding officials said all the raided clinics, including some prominent ones, were running pathological centres and laboratories without any license. None of these clinics had any skilled technicians for performing critical medical operations. Most patients of these clinics and pathological centres were given wrong treatments that sometimes caused deaths. Many of the clinics also employed brokers for hiring patients. Nearly 150 clinics are operating unabatedly in Rajshahi for years although only 31 clinics and 24 diagnostic centers got government approval, sources added. Besides, those who have government approval do not adhere to the rules. The raiding teams also advised government doctors and medical staffs for not being involved with such unregistered healthcare service providers.
