Platini to meet sports minister

UEFA president Michel Platini will meet with British Sports Minister Richard Caborn on Tuesday to discuss the behaviour of Liverpool fans at last month's Champions League final in Athens.

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said Tuesday that such was UEFA's concern about the behaviour that Platini wants to pass on a report into the Liverpool fans to the British minister.

"It's a little report on what happened in Athens," said Gaillard, who said the meeting would take place at the inauguration of a new exhibition in Brussels.

"It will be informal," he added.

News of the report had previously angered Liverpool bosses and Caborn retorted: "UEFA must stop playing the blame game and stop pointing fingers at people."

Gaillard, though, defended UEFA's position: "We have never said that all Liverpool supporters were guilty. There were, however, some Liverpool supporters who stole tickets off other Liverpool supporters.

"We have to ask the questions. We have to solve the problems. We never said we want to ban Liverpool supporters. Quite the contrary.

"But our primary aim is to ensure the safety and security of people who travel to games and are in the stadium."
