EU Troika due today


A European Union (EU) Troika delegation arrives here today on a four-day visit to evaluate the current political situation, state of human rights, political reforms and progress in the preparations towards holding the next parliamentary elections.

The team will be led by Andreas Michaelis, director general for Asian and Pacific Affairs of the German Foreign Office. Four others will accompany him from Germany, the European Commission, European Council Secretariat and the Portugal embassy in New Delhi.

The Troika delegation is scheduled to meet Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, the foreign adviser, the law and justice adviser, the army chief, the chief election commissioner (CEC), the Anti-Corruption Commission chairman, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, the acting foreign secretary, the home secretary and the foreign envoys.

The delegation will also meet with the Awami League and BNP leaders during their stay.

They are scheduled to hold a press conference on Saturday, June 9.
