Veteran filmmaker Rebeca terminally ill


Rebeca, the first female filmmaker (Bindu Thekey Britto) of the country has been hospitalised with serious kidney ailment. The terminally ill filmmaker is now at Dhaka Community Hospital, Maghbazar. Her relatives, friends, well-wishers and acquaintances are requested to pray for her.

Before making the film Bindu Thekey Britto (1970), Rebeca (real name Monjon Ara Begum) appeared as a character artiste in a number of Bangla and Urdu films including Aito Jeeban, Chhota Sahib, Mala, Chakori, No 3 Feku Ostagar Lane and more.

In fact films has been her lifelong passion. She was an employee of the Shilpa Bank. Rebeca was also a self-taught sculptor and poet. However, she never had an exhibition of her sculptures. She published some books of her poems, including Nodi Bujhi Dakey, Byakul Brishti, Bhalobasar Bhukhandey and Samoy Bhengechhe Sangshay.
