Six people killed in Lanka blast
9 others die in fresh violence
Afp, Colombo
At least six people were killed and 21 others wounded in a powerful roadside blast Monday near a key military base just outside Sri Lanka's capital, hospital sources said. Doctors at the Colombo South hospital said 21 people were brought there following the detonation of the roadside mine, targeting a police truck. Five were dead on admission. Another man died on the way to the nearby Panadura hospital, where six people were taken, doctors there said by telephone. Earlier suspected Tamil Tiger rebels set off a road side bomb in eastern Sri Lanka Sunday, killing three civilians as six more people were killed in separate clashes, police said. The rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) blast blew up a truck, killing the three people at Thirukkovil, a police official said, adding that the vehicle had earlier been used by security forces.
