They also underscored the need for creating mass awareness to remove early marriage from the society, says a press release.

Gender and Development (GAD) organised the press conference at its central office in the city where former adviser to the caretaker government Sultana Kamal, GAD Secretary Ranjan Karmakar, Women leader Prof Mahmuda Islam and Taherunnesa Abdullah were present.

They said curbing early marriage won't be easy although there are laws regarding birth registration, marriage registration and early marriage because people in rural areas are not aware of the laws and impacts of early marriage.

They also urged government, NGOS, civil society and all educated people to come forward to resist early marriage.
