Championnat De Football Professionnel
Toulouse makes UCL

Toulouse's 3-1 win over Bordeaux on the final French League day of the season Saturday ensured their place in the Champions League next campaign.

Toulouse went into the last round of matches boosted by being awarded a win by the French football league after crowd trouble halted their 0-0 draw at Nantes last weekend.

And they made the most of that decision by defeating Bordeaux to leapfrog into third to grab the last Champions League ticket on offer.

Their hero was Johan Elmander, the Swede producing all three goals.

Titleholders Lyon and second-placed Marseille had already ensured their place in Europe's top club competition going into Saturday's round of games.

Toulouse coach Elie Baup said: "We've experienced something really strong tonight, we're like young kids, we're all just so happy.

"It's a powerful moment for the players, for the club. Tongight I'm a happy man."

While there was joy near the foot of the Pyrenees there was heartache for fourth-placed Rennes, who were destined for Europe before conceding an injury time equaliser by Lille.

They finished on 57 points in company with Lens, who slipped up badly going down 3-0 to relegated Troyes, Sochaux, and Bordeaux.

Given the way Saturday's results went against them Toulouse may have one last hurdle to overcome if Bordeaux and Lens carry out their threat to launch a legal challenge against the French League's decision to punish Nantes for the crowd trouble last Saturday.

Elsewhere Pedro Pauleta ensured he ended the season as top scorer when bagging his 15th goal of the season in Paris Saint Germain's 1-0 win at Lorient.

And at the Stade Gerland six time champions Lyon gave Gerard Houllier, who has stood down as manager, the perfect send-off with a 3-1 win over Nantes with Florent Malouda claiming a double.

Second-placed Marseille also finished their campaign on the right note with Samri Nasri handing them a 1-0 win against Sedan.

Bidding their farewell to the top flight were the relegated trio Troyes, Sedan and Nantes.
