Khelafat chief Shaikhul Aziz sued for land grabbing, violence

Two separate criminal cases were filed yesterday against Khelafat Majlish Chief Shaikhul Azizul Haq, his four sons, and Mufti Sahidul Islam, a former lawmaker from Islami Oikkya Jote, a component of the immediate past ruling four-party alliance.

"Two cases have been filed accusing them of land grabbing and offences under the Explosives Act," said a police source.

The cases were filed by Ali Noor, a man who had donated his land for a Madrasa.

"Ali Noor filed the cases against Azizul Haq, his four sons, Mufti Sahidul Islam, and some 35 followers of Azizul Haq," a police source said.

"They took control of Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur through violence on November 3, 2001," Ali Noor said in his statement.

"They inflicted a loss of Tk 14 lakh on the madrasa during the violence, including looted cash and valuables," he added.
