Tight race for Israel Labour leadership

Opinion polls in Israel on Friday predicted a tight race in the Labour party leadership contest, with former prime minister Ehud Barak and former homeland security chief Ami Ayalon out in front.

A survey published by the country's mass-selling Yediot Aharonot newspaper gave Ayalon 35 percent of the vote, compared to 31 percent for Barak with current leader Defence Minister Amir Peretz trailing at 20 percent.
