Train derails in Lalmonirhat

Four compartments of a Tista-bound passenger train derailed at Tokrairhat Rail Station at around 6:30am yesterday, disrupting train communication on Tista-Ramna route.

The accident took place due to lack of sufficient sleepers and proper maintenance of the rail track, railway officials said.

A relief train from Lalmonirhat reached the spot and has been carrying out rescue operations.

About 200 passengers remained stranded due to the derailment, the officials added.
