National Poet's birth anniversary celebration underway in Trishal


To celebrate the 108th birth anniversary of our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Mymensingh district administration has planned a three-day grand programme at Nazrul Mancho, Darirampur in Trishal. The programme will start on May 25.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Ekram Ahmed will inaugurate the programme. Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Md. Shamsul Alam will preside.

Different cultural organisations of Mymensingh will take part in the programme which will include a colourful rally, discussions on life and works of Nazrul, musical soiree, dance drama, poetry recitation and more.

Cultural organisations taking part at the programme are Zila Shilpakala Academy, Nazrul Academy, Bidhrohi Natya Goshthi, Trishal Kaladhani, Nauhelal Club, Saptasur, Mymensingh Sangeet Bidyalay, Greater Mymensingh Sanskritik Forum, Trishal Dukhu Miah Theatre, Bahurupi Natya Sangstha, Trishal Dolonchanpa Shilpi Goshthi, Shurabhi Sanskritik Sangstha, Shyamganj Surbani Sangeet Academy, Swaralipi Sangeet Academy, Sangeet Bidyalay of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bhaluka Lalitakala Academy and others.

All necessary preparations for the programme have been taken care of, said a source in the district administration.

Kazi Nazrul Islam spent a few years at Darirampur in Trishal and studied at Darirampur High School. Kazi Rafizuddin, a sub-inspector working in Bardhwan, West Bengal took Nazrul to his village home at Kazirshimla in Trishal. People of Trishal still consider Nazrul as one of their own.
