A special court yesterday fixed May 27 for the hearing on charge framing against detained former state minister for planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir in connection with a graft case.Meanwhile, three other special courts recorded statements of 10 prosecution witnesses in three other graft cases filed against former state minister Amanullah Aman, his wife Sabera Aman, former state minister Mir Nasiruddin, his son Mir Helaluddin and controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun. CASE AGAINST ALAMGIR After scrutinising the case docket and other relevant documents, Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the Third Special Court--set up at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar MP Hostel--accepted the supplementary charge sheet and set May 27 for the hearing of the charge framing against him. Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director (DD) Syed Iqbal Hossain, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, on Monday submitted a supplementary charge sheet against Alamgir. The case against Alamgir cites inconsistencies between his wealth statement and the actual wealth he has. The anti-graft body found that the accused did not declare in his wealth statement Tk 1.17 crore that he has in fixed deposit accounts. Following the submission of the supplementary charge sheet, his undisclosed and under-estimated assets currently stands at Tk 2.10 crore. The IO added that Alamgir in the wealth statement said his Banani residence was valued at Tk 8.25 lakh while the Public Works Department has set the current price of the residence at Tk 87 lakh. Similarly, his Tk 10 lakh assets in Comilla have been re-assessed to Tk 20 lakh. Alamgir showed his bank account balance to be Tk 90,000 whereas investigations found that the figure is actually Tk 2.45 lakh. CASE AGAINST MAMUN Judge Mohammad Ashraf Hossain of the Fifth Special Court recorded statements of two prosecution witnesses including complainant of the graft case filed against controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun. The case was filed against him on April 5 for not submitting his wealth statement within the ACC's stipulated time. Following the filing of the case, the court issued an arrest warrant against him and directed the authorities concerned to send a copy of the arrest warrant to the police station concerned. It also directed the police station to submit a progress report to the court. On February 18, the ACC had directed Mamun to submit his wealth statement within 72 hours, but neither he nor any representative on his behalf submitted the statements. The anti-graft body at a meeting on March 29 gave approval for filing a case against him, sources said. CASE AGAINST AMAN Judge Firoz Alam of the First Special Court recorded statements of four prosecution witnesses of the case filed against Amanullah Aman and his wife. After recording their statements, the court fixed today for next hearing of the case. CASE AGAINST NASIR Judge AK Roy of the Second Special Court recorded statements of four prosecution witnesses in the case filed against Mir Nasir and his son. The court then fixed today for next hearing of the case.
