EX-secretary 'commits' suicide
Staff Correspondent
A former secretary apparently committed suicide at his residence in the city's Dhanmondi area yesterday. Police recovered the body of Amiyangshu Sen, 62, an ex-secretary of the jute ministry, from his house on Dhanmondi Road No-10 and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Quoting Laxmi Rani Ghosh, a domestic help, police said Sen was padding about the corridor in the morning and at around 10:30am, he went inside a bedroom and locked the door. His wife Geeta Pal, deputy secretary of the food ministry, was at work then. As Laxmi failed to have him open the door despite repeated calls, she called on the security guards and the neighbours. But they too failed to open the door and called Geeta at her office. After breaking open the door by a locksmith, police found the body hanging from the ceiling on the veranda. Locals said Sen had recently resigned from the post of apartment society president. He had no children. An unnatural death case was filed with the Dhanmondi Police Station.
