One shot by muggers in city

One person was shot when a gang of muggers opened fire on him at Uttara in the city yesterday.

The injured Jahangir Alam Juboraj, 27, was rushed to the Chest Diseases Hospital as a bullet hit his back.

Police said a gang of muggers waylaid Juboraj and his uncle MR Akhter at Road No 24 at Sector 7 at 11:15am when they were going to Rajlakkhi Complex in the area in a private car after drawing Tk 4 lakh from the Uttara branch of National Bank.

Quoting witnesses police said seven muggers --- four in two motorbikes and three in a CNG-run autorickshaw --- stopped the vehicle when it was passing through Road No 7.

Juboraj was shot when the gang members opened fire at the car and tried to snatch a bag containing the money owned by Akhter. The miscreants left the spot as the local people chased them hearing the gunshots.

Akhter filed a case with Uttara Police Station. Police could not arrest anyone until 10:30pm in this connection.
