IO of case against Tarique Rahman closed

The police authorities in a sudden move yesterday closed the second officer of Gulshan police station who had been the investigation officer (IO) of an extortion case against former prime minister Khaleda Zia's elder son Tarique Rahman.Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Rezaul Alam said it was a routine transfer. But sources said Sub-inspector (SI) Mahbub Morshed was closed to Rajarbagh Police Lines for his negligence in investigating the extortion case and for his failure to submit a complete charge sheet. Amin Ahmed, owner of Al-Amin Constructions, filed the Tk 1 crore extortion case on March 8 against Tarique and his close aide Mian Nuruddin Apu. The IO submitted the charge sheet on March 18 to a Dhaka court. On April 17 the High Court stayed for six months the proceedings of the case against BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman.
