JCD cadres beat 2 RU students

A group of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadres of Rajshahi University unit severely beat up two general students of chemistry department at a cultural programme organised as part of the freshers' reception at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium on Saturday night.

The injured were identified as Bulbul Ahmed, a masters student and Abul Kalam Azad, a fourth year student of chemistry department.

They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in a critical condition, sources said.

Campus sources said, Bulbul and Azad requested some unruly JCD cadres not to create any chaos once they started dancing to the tunes at the cultural programme.

Ignoring their request, JCD cadres, led by Ahsan Habib, a 3rd year student of Anthropology department, started to beat up both Bulbul and Azad with iron rod and bamboo.

Hearing the news, university Proctor Enamul Haque, department Chairman Prof Saidul Islam, department students and police rushed to the spot and caught Habib.

Later, he was handed over to Motiher Police Station.

General students of the department yesterday met the proctor and demanded exemplary punishment to the responsible JCD cadres.
