Dastagir, also an AL leader and owner of Gazi Tank, went to Gulshan police station and filed the case. In the first information report he mentioned that the accused made a phone call to him on April 13, 2006 and demanded Tk 50 lakh from him.

He also mentioned that following the phone call he went to the Banani residence of Zafrullah and gave him a total of Tk 50 lakh on April 13 and May 30 in 2006 out of fear.

On May 4 Dastagir's family claimed that a group of armed men identifying themselves as members of the joint forces picked Dastagir up from his Siddheswari residence earlier in the day.

No law enforcement agency however confirmed the arrest.
