Staff Correspondent
A victim yesterday rejected final report of a rape case as police dropped the names of two main suspects, including union parishad chairman Asim Bishwas.Asim and his accomplice Samiran Saker were accused in the First Information Report (FIR). Terming the final report 'motivated' and 'built-up report', Mina Rani (not her real name) at a press conference at Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) yesterday demanded reinvestigation of the case, immediate arrest of the criminals and their punishment. Mina, mother of two and a widow, has been working as a domestic help at the residence of one Biswanathh Adhikari at Kotalipara union in Gopalganj for two years. David Adhikari, younger son of Biswanathh, read out the statement at the press conference. She told the journalists that Asim, chairman of Ramshil Union, and Samiran along with two others stormed into the residence of Biswanathh in the early hours of February 21 and gangraped her. She fell victim to rape just when she went out of her room to answer the call of nature. The victim filed the rape case with Kotalipara Poilice Station accusing four people, including Asim and Samiran on February 24. Four day after filing of the case, police arrested Samiran while Asim went into hiding after the incident. Asim, however, returned home recently as police dropped his name from the final report on May 9. The victim filed a Naraji petition (No confidence) with a court in Gopalganj rejecting the final report. "Mina was raped by her employer Biswanathh Adhikari, a Chriistian, and Asim was implicated in the case to divert the incident to another direction," said Asheque Suza Mamun, investigation officer of the case and officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station. "On the night chairman went to the house to know about the incident," Mamun added. Refuting the allegation of Kotalipara OC, David Adhikari said " Mina is still working in our house. If my father had raped her, would it be possible for her to work in our house until today?"
