Local cautionary signal number 3 for sea ports
Bss, Dhaka
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised again to keep hoisted the local cautionary (LC) signal Number 3 until further notice, met office said yesterday. All fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been warned to hug close to the coast and negotiate the sea cautiously. The met warning came as deep convection continued to take place in the north bay, where trough of a low pressure has surfaced since Thursday, causing squally weather over the bay. It has made the sea rough and dangerous for navigation. The deep convection, whipping up high winds, made the sea rough was a spin over from the cyclone 'Akash', which came roaring from the north bay, lashing the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar coast on May 15. Due to the deep convection in the north Bay, close to the caost, high winds are blowing, causing some rains along the southeastern sea board earlier yesterday. Rains were also reported from different parts of the country, including the capital, which had a total of 64mm of rains with high winds from the east at a speed of 28 kmph at 6:12am, met sources said. Patenga at Chittagong on the coast recorded some 7mm of rains, enough to wet the nearby grounds at Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium, delaying the beginning of the day two of the test cricket match between Bangladesh and India. The met sources said some more rains are expected as the southwestern monsoon winds are nearing the coast. They already arrived at the south Andaman sea last week.
