Switzerland, Japan hold FTA talks

Japan and Switzerland on Friday wound up an initial round of talks on a free trade agreement which would be Tokyo's first with a European country, the foreign ministry said. In the talks from Monday to Friday, the two sides discussed "major areas of negotiations, such as trade in goods, trade in services, investment and intellectual property rights," a foreign ministry statement said. It said the second round of talks will be held in Switzerland in the first half of July. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey agreed on the start of free trade talks during a telephone conversation in mid-January.
