Reception accorded to Polan Sarkar and Shamsuddin Sarkar

Polan Sarkar and Shamsuddin Sarkar of Bagha upazila, Rajshahi were accorded a reception at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium, Rajshahi University (RU) on last Tuesday. The two have attained recognition for tireless efforts in educating villagers and as a philanthropist respectively.Polan Sarkar distributes books among the villagers in and around his own village Bausa in Bagha Upozila. Samsuddin Sarkar, a war hero, maintains an orphanage that houses 125 students, all by himself. They were both awarded crests and appreciation letters at the ceremony. RU unit of Bagha Samity with financial sponsor from leading mobile phone operator GrameenPhone organised the reception to acknowledge their role in promoting education. Vice Chancellor of RU, Professor Altaf Hossain attended the ceremony as chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Mamnun-ul Keramat; Treasurer, Professor Abdul Jabbar Khan; President of Bagha Samity, Professor Abdus Salkam Al Madani and GrameenPhone Rajshahi Regional Head Imon Kollyan Dutt attended the programme. A cultural programme followed the reception.
