Raw materials of sweater factory gutted in city

Huge quantity of raw materials of a sweater factory was gutted in a devastating fire at Khilgaon in the city yesterday.Fire Brigade officials said the fire broke out at 12:25pm at the tin-shed storeroom of Usha Sweater Factory housed on the roof of the six-storied factory at East Goran. On information, four fire fighting units from Tejgaon and Khilgaon fire stations rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after over an hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people. Fire Brigade officials could not say from where the fire originated. Rahmat Ullah, manager of the factory, filed a general diary with Khilgaon Police Station mentioning that the fire originated from a electric short circuit. Duty officer at the Fire Brigade and Civil Defence headquarters said the loss was initially estimated at Tk 50 lakh. Panic grips TCB staffs Meanwhile, panic gripped the officials and employees of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) at Karwan Bazar in the city yesterday after a garbage can at the fifth floor of the building caught fire. As the smoke comes out of the locked office of Bangladesh Trade Institute on the fifth floor of the TCB building at 4:45pm, officials and employees rushed to the scene and put out the fire breaking open the door, police said. No casualty was reported in the incidents.
