Patuakhali court summons ex-MP Shahidul

Nine leaders of Dinajpur district BNP including its secretary and organising secretary have been sued for their alleged involvement in extortion and robbery, according to police sources.

The accused are district BNP secretary Md Ashraful Alam, organising secretary and PS to former minister for women and children affairs Md. Mokhlasur Rahman Rowshan, joint secretary Hasan Aminur Rashid, district Jubo Dal secretary Aminul Islam and party activists Afzal Hossain, Mahfuzur Rahman, Joynal Abedin, Kana Babu and Mahidur Rahman.

Mohammad Alauddin, general secretary of Dinajpur CSD Warehouse Lobour Union, filed the case with Sadar police station Monday night, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Allauddin alleged that the BNP and Jubo Dal men led by Ashraful Alam and Mokhlesur Rahman Rowshan attacked him and his brother Jalal Uddin on January 10, 2002 and looted Tk 2.35 lakh on gunpoint. They also stabbed Jalal Uddin and took him away.

Police said the accused are on the run since promulgation of emergency on January 11.

Our Patuakhali Correspon-dent reports: Former BNP lawmaker from Patuakhali-2 (Baufal) Shahidul Alam Talukder has been asked to appear before court today in connection with two cases, one of them filed under the Arms Act.

The order was issued by the District and Sessions Judge's court on May 10 and a copy of the order was hung at his residence at Nazirpur in Baufal upazila town.

Police and court sources said the notice was hung at his residence as the BNP leader is allegedly on the run since proclamation of emergency on January 11.

Joint forces in a drive earlier seized two empty magazines of pistol, 18 pieces of relief sharees and some sports goods from his residence on February 15.

After the recovery, Mizanur Rahman, the then Officer-in-Charge of Baufal police station, filed two cases, one of them under the Arms Act. Police said they submitted charge sheet in the arms case on March 18 and the other case is being probed.
