PDB official arrested for bribery


Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested an engineer of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) from the its local office while taking bribe from a private company owner, police officials said.

Rab personnel caught BPDB executive engineer Mohammad Azaharul Islam red-handed while taking Tk 15,000 bribe from Nur Islam Shiddique, owner of Nayan Enterprise at Pulhat village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila.

Nur said his file was pending with Azaharul Islam who had demanded Tk.45,000 from him for giving new power connection in his company office. Accordingly, he had paid him Tk.30,000, Nur said.

Acting on a tip-off, a Rab team jointly led by Major Bari and assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Nazmul Islam conducted a drive at the local BPDB office to arrest the 'corrupt' engineer from the spot.
