Muggers shoot trader to loot Tk 4 lakh

Muggers shot a cooking oil trader in Shyampur in the capital taking his Tk 4 lakh while a group of criminals shot an hotelier in Karwan Bazar for refusing to pay toll.

Cooking oil trader Shohagh Hossain, 25, of Jurain and manager of West Inn on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue Omar Faruq, 45, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where they were operated upon for their bullet wounds.

In Shyampur, three muggers waylaid Shohagh, a co-owner of Saju Enterprise, around 11:30am as he was going to a bank to deposit Tk 5 lakh.

Witnesses said the three muggers on a motorbike stopped the rickshaw Shohagh was travelling on around 100 yards from the bank.

Shohagh's brother-in-law and business partner Nazmul Hossain told reporters at DMCH that the muggers pointed a small firearm and tried to snatch a bag containing Tk 4 lakh from Shohagh.

"As Shohagh tried to resist, they fired three shots two of which penetrated his chest and left arm," Nazmul said quoting a witness.

The muggers fled with the bag. However, they could not take Tk 1 lakh that Shohagh had in his pocket.

In another incident, four criminals stormed the office of Omar Faruq on the second floor of West Inn around 7:45am and demanded toll from him.

As Faruq refused to pay, two of the criminals fired eight shots, two in his two legs and the rest at a wall, Faruq told reporters at DMCH.
