Govt trying to bring back all criminals from abroad

The caretaker government has taken initiatives to bring back all the dreaded criminals staying abroad.

"We are trying to bring back the listed criminals staying abroad specially in India through our home and foreign ministries." Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad told an open discussion attended by police officials in Dhaka yesterday.

"Though there are legal complexities, we are trying through the ministries to find out ways," added the police chief.

Earlier on May 6, Bangladesh's dreaded crime lord Khandakar Tanvir Islam Joy, who is on the Bangladesh government announced list of 23 most-wanted criminals, was arrested from a clothing store at Rajarhat in Kolkata, India.

The Bangladesh foreign ministry on May 7 sent a letter to the Indian foreign ministry through Bangladesh's Deputy High Commission in Kolkata requesting to handover Joy.

Joy's name figured among the top five on the list of most wanted criminals which Bangladesh Rifles handed over to Indian Border Security Force at the beginning of the year.

During the discussion, police officials talked about their problems they face while performing duties. Officers-in-charge of 25 model police stations, set up across the country, also took part in the discussion.
