Losing heart again!

Most of the peace-loving people in Bangladesh welcomed the takeover of power by the caretaker government backed by the armed forces. They also welcomed the decisions of the government to uphold the values of the liberation war, to start the process of punishing the corrupt politicians and others, to separate the judiciary, and, above all, to establish the rule of law. This has been repeatedly highlighted in all the press briefings, interviews and the speech of all advisers, most importantly by the law adviser and communications adviser.

We all were happy to see that the government was very bold to arrest "once-powerful people" who have looted national resources. We strongly believed that our country would finally be saved. We will have a country which is free from corruption, where law will be equally applicable to all.....

I have, however, been thoroughly shocked to know that the government was arranging for the ex-PM and her family to leave Bangladesh. When the government has repeatedly said that it would make the country free of corruption, why do we have to free it by sending the corrupt people abroad? Are we not really rewarding, rather than punishing them? These people will surely enjoy their life abroad with our money that they have looted. Is it not contrary to our commitment to rule of law? I am sure many other people will also feel it the same way.

If this continues, there is the likelihood that the government will lose its current level of popularity and for that one good mistake is enough.
