National Rabindra Sangeet Festival ends

The eighteenth National Rabindra Sangeet Festival organised by Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha (BRSSS) ended on May 8. The event was held at Shaokat Osman Auditorium, Central Public Library at Shahbagh.

The five-day festival, which began on May 4, featured solo performances by around 150 noted and upcoming Tagore artistes as well as group presentations by 10 cultural organisations from all over of the country.

This year the festival was dedicated to the memory of noted Tagore exponent Waheedul Haque. BRSSS hopes it can carry on the movement initiated by Haque to encourage young talented Tagore singers.

On the last day of the festival, programmes were held in two sessions -- at morning and evening. Artistes of BRSSS staged a musical performance titled Kobi Bondona in the morning featuring Tagore songs by 34 artistes.

In the evening, artistes celebrated 84th birthday of Kalim Sharafi -- renowned Tagore exponent and president of BRSSS.

Organisations including Shurotirtho, Sangeet Bhaban, Bishwa Bina, Robi Roshmi, Robi Raag, Geeto Shudha, Dhrubotan also participated at the programme. Fahim Hassan Chowdhury and Mita Haq were among artistes who performed solo songs at the programme.
