They are detained former home minister and Awami League (AL) leader Md Nasim, former AL lawmakers Joynal Hazari, Haji Selim and Haji Maqbul, detained adviser to AL chief and businessman Salman F Rahman, detained former bureaucrat ANH Akhtar Hossain and ward commissioner Abdul Quaiyum.

Sources said the National Coordination Committee on Combating Corruption and Crime has sought the information from the central bank.

As per the directive, banks will have to submit detailed information on transactions made through personal accounts, joint accounts, current accounts, foreign currency accounts, savings accounts, credit accounts and credit cards.

Earlier on April 25, the central bank directed the banks to submit information of the bank accounts of two former premiers-- Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina.

The banks have already met the central bank directive and the BB has sent the banking information to the coordination committee, sources said.

According to the banks, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina each have about Tk 3 crore in their personal bank accounts.

On the same day, the National Board of Revenue handed over a list of 83 former politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and their relatives to all banks and asked them to submit their bank account information.

On April 30, the BB also verbally asked for the information of former law minister Moudud Ahmed and Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

Earlier on April 15, the government had asked for the bank account information of 71 corrupt suspects and their relatives.

In March, banks and non-banking financial institutions froze bank accounts of 53 individuals and their relatives on instructions from NBR as Tk 120 crore was found to have been undisclosed.

The NBR asked for the information of these people to resolve tax cases against them as it thinks that though all of them have different sources of income they did not show it in their tax returns.
