Road accidents kill six, injure 46

At least six people were killed and 46 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Faridpur and Gaibandha yesterday.A Correspondent from Comilla reports: At least three people were killed and 40 others injured in a road accident at Eliatganj on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila at about 7:00am yesterday. Following the accident, the road communication between Dhaka and Chittagong was suspended for one and half hours. The deceased were identified as saleman Md Salauddin, 18 of Kaladumur village, Md Humayun Kibir, 20 of Gagutipara village and street beggar Nowab Ali, 70, in Daudkandi upazila. According to eyewitnesses and police, the accident took place when a Noakhali- bound passenger bus coming from Dhaka lost control and skidded off the road into a departmental store due to reckless driving. Three people died on the spot while 40 others, including 10 passers-by, were also injured in the accident. Of them, condition of an unidentified person was stated to be critical. The injured were admitted to Daudkandi Health Complex for treatment. On information, Kotowali police reached the spot and sent the bodies to Comilla medical college hospital for autopsy. A correspondent from Faridpur adds: Two people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Faridpur yesterday. A schoolboy was run over by a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Moksedpur of Gopalgonj district on Dhaka-Khulna Vishwa road at Ziakuli while he was crossing the road at Nagarkanda upazila. The dead was identified as Nazim Talukder, 10, a student, and son of Delwar Hossen of the same area. The Kotwali police seized the bus. Meanwhile, a rickshaw van passenger was killed and three others were injured when the van collided with another rickshaw van at Mregi at Sadar upazila on Dhaka-Khulna highway at about 1:00pm. The dead was identified as Chanu Fakir, 60. The injured were rushed to Faridpur Medical Collage Hospital. Our Correspondent from Gaibandha adds: One person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident at Bamondanga on Sunderganj-Rangpur highway yesterday. Police said Mostafizur Rahman, 35, of village Adarshapara under Sunderganj upazila was killed on the spot when a speedy truck hit him from behind at Bamondanga while he was returning home by a bi-cycle. The injured were rushed to Sunderganj Health Complex.
