Baby missing from hospital rescued

Police rescued a new-born baby from a nearby bush yesterday, three hours after she was missing from Sirajganj General Hospital. According to police and family sources, pregnant Lota Ghosh, 23, wife of Lakhsman Ghosh of Lahiri Mohonpur village in Ullapara upazila, was admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital at about 10 am on Saturday (May 5). About an hour later, she gave birth to a female baby. At about 2 pm yesterday, Lota came out on the corridor, about 10 feet from her room (No 1), to hang some wet clothes for drying. Back to the room, the mother saw her baby missing from the bed. Police was informed and after a wild search, the baby was found in a bush near the hospital at around 5 pm. The baby is now being treated at the hospital. No one was arrested till filing of the report yesterday evening. The mother claimed that the incident was an attempt by a section of hospital staff to teal the baby. When contacted, Dr. Awal at the female ward admitted the incident and said the matter is being probed. Action will be taken if any body of the hospital staff is found involved, he said.
