5 BNP, LDP men held in Khagrachhari

Joint forces yesterday arrested joint convener of Khagrachhari district Liberal Democratic party (LDP) Anup Mohajon and four leaders and activists of BNP and its student front JCD on charge of terrorizing people, tender scam and other crimes.

The law enforcers raided residences of Anup Mohajon in Mohalchhari Bazar and of Matiranga upazila BNP president Mohammad Akkel Ali early morning and arrested them.

Others held in separate drives are BNP activists Mohammad Abdul Kader and Nasir Uddin and JCD activist Mohammad Abul Kashem. Kashem was arrested along with 16 bottles of Phensidyl, police said.

All of them were produced before a First Class Magistrate court, which sent them to Khagrachhari jail, police said.

Talking to this correspondent on Khagrachhari court compound, Anup claimed that he was arrested in false cases filed during BNP rule only to harass him.
