Cheating case against former Jamaat MP

A cheating case has been filed against former Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Riasat Ali in Assassuni.

Maleka Khatun of Pratapnagar village in Assassuni upazila filed the case with a First Class Magistrate court at Satkhira on Monday.

Three others are also accused in the case. They are the former lawmaker's son Zulfiqar Ali, Kurikaunia Mahila Dakhil Madrasa Superintendent Adam Shafiullah and Pratapnagar Union Parishad (UP) chairman Abdul Mannan.

After hearing, Magistrate Hemayet Hossain ordered Assassuni police station Officer-in-Charge Shah Jahan Siraj to investigate the matter.

Plaintiff Maleka Khatun in her complaint said, as per an advertisement by Kurikaunia Mahila Dakhil Madrasa, she applied for a job in the post of assistant teacher of sociology department in November 1996. She was appointed after interview held in December and she joined on January 1, 1997, she said.

Soon after her joining, the then president of the Madrasa governing body and former lawmaker Maulana Riasat Ali, Madrasha Superintendent Adam Shafiullah and UP chairman Abdul Mannan realised Tk 33,700 from her as donation, she alleged in the complaint.

In August 2002, they asked her to work as a clerk at the Madrasa.

As she refused, she was barred from entering the Madrasha by Riasat Ali and his son Zulfiqar Ali. They also threatened her of 'dire consequences' as she protested it.

Finally, she was dismissed. She did not file any case earlier fearing reprisal, she said in the complaint.

On contact over cell phone, Riasat Ali denied the allegation of realising money from Maleka Khatun. She was dismissed as per rule, he said.
