World Cup fever hits the spot!
Bangladesh's win against South Africa was no fluke. What was being dubbed by a cynical few as a "fluke" has now become a trend and so called cricket pundits from other countries can no longer write us off. We are here and we are here to stay. This is the general sentiment throughout the country. Mahmuda Afroz talked to a few of our celebrities who are also cricket fanatics:Asaduzzaman Noor Ek kothay fatafati khela hoyechhey!!! While there was a bit of fumbling in the batting order initially, our cricket team had the fighting spirit and I believe that's the most valuable asset for anyone. We lacked this spirit in our other matches. I felt nothing but pride seeing our boys (except for one or two the rest are so very young) out there against 6 feet giants dominating the game. They fought till the end. Mind you winning is not the most important thing. Giving your best shot and fighting till the end is. I think we should learn and inculcate this fighting spirit from our cricketers. My blessings are with them. Aly Zaker My feeling is one of pure and simple ecstasy. Even after the match was over I was so excited I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. Having said that the win was not unexpected. There was remarkable understanding and teamwork. While the run rate during the first 10 overs was low, the plan was that the opening batsmen will stay in the crease no matter what. For a team like Bangladesh the key things are playing strategically and good teamwork. While a batsman or bowler might have a bad day there is no excuse for the fielders and lacking team spirit. Right from the beginning it was evident that the whole team was geared up for winning. If they can keep up this strategy the results for the coming matches shouldn't differ. At the end I would like to say, Go with a battle cry and win for us. Keep up the good work... Dolly Zahur Dekhbo na maney!! When I got back home from shooting, 4 wickets had already gone. I just sat to watch a few overs. I didn't realise how late it was and before I knew it Bangladesh had won (I was sitting there with makeup on, hadn't even washed my face, which rarely happens). I was so excited! Just today back at work we were discussing that if Bangladesh keeps up its performance who knows what can happen in the next World Cup? Tauquir Ahmed Whatever your reaction is mine is the same. I think the whole nation is going through the same emotions of pride and joy. We should try and get used to this feeling. However the world cup has not reached its feverish peak at this moment. Something is lacking. It could be that two of the bigger teams were dropped out in the first round. I wish there were more matches like that between England and Sri Lanka. Bipasha Hayat Yes I watched the match right till the end. I see all of this in a very positive light. The cricket team has proven time and again that they have the calibre. Even if they lose I don't think we should bring them down with our negative comments because our team has done their best and made us proud.
