Govt extends time for open market sale of rice

The government has decided to extend the time limit of selling rice under Open Market Sale programme up to April 24 from April 19 because of its impact on the market.An official handout yesterday said the time limit of the OMS programme, began on March 18, was extended due to its high demand and to keep the price of rice stable. Each dealer now can sell 1,020 kg of rice a day instead of previous quantum of 510 kg. The price of per kg rice has been re-fixed at Tk 15 from previous rate of Tk 15.25. In the district towns, 10 dealers, instead of four, will sell rice from now on. The government has decided to sell 2.51 lakh metric tons of rice across the country under the OMS programme to cool down the wayward market.
