Expat poisoned by 'muggers' dies at DMCH

A Saudi expatriate poisoned by alleged muggers died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday morning.

The deceased, Muktar Hossain, 38, was flown to Dhaka from Jeddah early hours of Thursday.

Finding Muktar and an elderly man lying unconscious beside Karwan Bazar underpass at 11:30am on Thursday, Tejgaon police rushed them to DMCH where Muktar died after about 17 hours.

Tejgaon police said they came to know that the bodies were lying there since the dawn and locals made failed attempts to bring back their consciousness.

Hospital sources said Muktar might have died due to administering of excessive poison.

Muktar went missing sometime after he left the Zia International Airport, family sources said.

Muktar's wife Rina Begum said they came to know about his arrival in Dhaka when another Saudi expatriate who was also in that flight called her at 12:15am yesterday.

"The man asked for Muktar and told me that Muktar came to Dhaka in early hours of Thursday as he was forced to return from Saudi Arabia," she said.

And after that they started searching for Muktar and finally got him dead at DMCH, she added.

Police suspect that criminals might have made him unconscious somewhere between the airport and Karwan Bazar and left him near the underpass after taking his luggage.
