Rokeya Kabir Women's Dev Centre launched
The Rokeya Rahman Kabir Women's Development Centre that aims at empowering helpless, vulnerable and battered women, was launched in Rajbari on Friday. Founder and Chairperson of Brac Fazle Hasan Abed formally inaugurated the centre, says a press release. At the inaugural ceremony, he paid homage to the memories of Rokeya Kabir and said she had always worked for development of women and her existence will always be felt through this centre. We wish to carry her incomplete work much further, he added. The Shoptogram Silk Production Centre, established by Rokeya, was handed over to Brac in 1999, which started operating as "Brac Silk Production and Training Centre." It was later named after Rokeya Rahman Kabir in her honour. Programme Coordinator of Ayesha Abed Foundation Md Rafikul Islam presided over the ceremony while daughter of Rokeya Rahman and Professor of Sussex University in the UK Dr Naila Kabir, Additional District Commissioner of Rajbari Faruk Ahmed, Police Super Muniruzzaman, Centre Manager Md Mohiuddin Ahmed and Centre staff Anwara Begum spoke among others. Later, Abed and other guests visited the different programmes at the centre.
