Development a must to weed out outlawed parties, says Anwarul Iqbal

Adviser to the Caretaker Government Anwarul Iqbal said all round development of the south-western region of the country is a must to weed out underground parties in the region once and for all. He said the underground parties emerged in the region due to the absence of positive development. He was speaking as the chief guest of a discussion meeting at Bagerhat Zila Parishad auditorium yesterday. The discussion, which was followed by a cultural programme, was held to celebrate the 30th founding anniversary of Bagerhat Press Club. The adviser said both electronic and print media should extend active cooperation with the present non-party caretaker government in holding a free and fair election in the country. "We cannot say right now how long it will require to hold the national elections," the adviser said. Anwarul Iqbal said the government has waged a crusade against unbridled corruption and all sorts of crimes. He urged the people to help the joint forces with their ongoing operations to stop corruption and crime. He said a list of absconding ward commissioners of all city corporations are being prepared. The caretaker government has decided to expel those local-body representatives who are depriving the people of their services and those who failed to attend three consecutive meetings of their respective local bodies, he added. Earlier, a delegation of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) submitted a memorandum to the adviser demanding implementation of different development projects to ensure economic development of the region. Presided over by President of Bagerhat Press Club Shah Alam Tuku, the meeting was also addressed by President of Khulna Divisional Press Club Federation and Editor of Dainik Purbanchal Alhaj Liaquat Ali and former director general of Press Institute of Bangladesh Abdus Salam.
