Cutting short weekend ?

Cutting short weekend? Or cutting short employees' overtime payments?

It is very disappointing to see how much self centered and commercial minded our country's top businessmen are. Business communities like BGMEA and FBCCI have proposed for one weekly holiday, instead of two days. Is this aimed at avoiding over-time payments to the employees?

I work for a foreign multinational and I understand the impact of Friday weekend in Bangladesh very well, but I don't understand why FBCCI and BGMEA are asking for one day holiday? Capitalism is part of democracy, but not the other way around, so far I understand.

We, the general people, know very well what most of the country's big businessmen's lifestyle is like and why they are reluctant to enjoy quality time with their family members at home. We general people also have a fair idea as to how some of these businessmen started their entrepreneurship by smuggling, black marketing and looting property during and after the independence war.

I saw on TV a couple of weeks back a top businessman reciting from the Holy Quran's reference to holiday and Jumma prayers. Do our businessmen also follow other clauses of the Holy Quran regarding ethics? You feed us rotten food and medicine and now you are trying to take away our family time from us.

Wake up friends, enjoy the morning sun with your family and friends. Play squash with your daughter, swim with your son, and have faith in the Almighty. Have a decent life!
