Zheng settling in

The arrival of his parents and daughter have helped China captain Zheng Zhi settle into life at Premier League club Charlton Athletic, and he hopes his loan move will be made permanent.

Zheng, nicknamed ZZ, made his Charlton debut at Old Trafford last Saturday and won praise from manager Alan Pardew.

The 26-year-old midfielder is taking English lessons with a club tutor as he tries to adapt to living in London, but it was the decision of his family to join him that has helped him adjust.

"I've felt very comfortable in the past few days as my parents and my daughter have come to be with me in London, and it always helps having your family with you," he told the club website.

"It was very exciting to make my debut at Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams, and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much."

Zheng is on loan from Chinese champions Shandong Luneng and is currently in Spain training with the team ahead of their last 11 games of the season.

He welcomed the compliments from Pardew and said he was determined to impress him further as the manager mulls whether to take up the option to make the move permanent.

"It's nice to hear your manager talking about you positively, and I was just trying to keep up to my normal performance level," he said.

"I tried my best and at the end of the day it's only my first Premier League match. I think I did well but I can do better after a few more matches.

"The Spain trip is a very important part of our preparation for the next few league fixtures.

"We need to get totally ready for them and I definitely understand the situation and I'm ready to give my all to help the team to fight against relegation. No doubt about it."

Charlton next play West Ham on February 24 in a crucial London derby.
