Outlaw killed in 'crossfire'

An activist of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) Lal Pataka faction was killed in an encounter with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday at Shonapur village of Ataikula thana.

The dead was identified as Abdul Gofur alias Jamai Gofur, 35, from village Durgapur of the same thana.

According to a Rab 12 press release, a team of Rab from Pabna camp raided Shonapur village at around 7:30pm where criminals belonging to PBCP Lal Pataka faction were gathering for a meeting.

The criminals opened fire on Rab as soon as they sensed Rab's presence. Rab also returned fire prompting a gunfight that lasted around 15 minutes, Rab said in the press release.

After the fight was over, Rab found Gofur's body with serious bullet injuries. Rab recovered a loaded shutter gun with bullets from the scene, claimed Rab.

Gofur was accused in several criminal cases including murder, Rab added.
