Ex-minister Tariqul held


The joint forces arrested BNP leader and former forest and environment minister Tariqul Islam, and another former lawmaker of the party Rashiduzzaman Millat from their houses last night.

The forces raided Tariqul's residence in Jessore town around 10:30 last night soon after he had returned home after a day in hiding.

Sources in the joint forces told local journalists that they arrested Tariqul.

However, he was still inside the house at the time of filing this report at 1:30am today as he had fallen sick during the raid. The law enforces called in a doctor who was treating him, according to Tariqul's family.

He has been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, his family said.

He had to return home as he could not avail the required treatment for his ailments while in hiding.

In another raid the joint forces arrested former BNP lawmaker from Jamalpur-1 constituency Rashiduzzaman Millat raiding his Gulshan residence in the capital around 11:00pm yesterday, party sources said. Millat is known to be close to Hawa Bhaban.

No government agency however officially confirmed the arrest.

Earlier in the morning a Rab official filed a case against Millat in connection with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Rab seized a rifle, 50 rounds of bullets, a rifle butt, a rifle magazine, a walkie-talkie, and a pistol holster from his house on Sunday.
