4-party protests 'AL anarchy'
Demands poll schedule soon

The BNP-led four-party alliance yesterday staged demonstrations in all thanas across the country protesting 'anarchy, killings and terrorist activities' by the Awami League (AL)-led 14-party combine, and demanding immediate announcement of schedule for the next elections.

Leaders, workers and supporters of the four-party held rallies and brought out processions in different areas of the thanas in the capital.

The alliance will hold a rally at the city's Muktangon today and stage demonstrations at district level across the country as part of its programmes protesting 'destructive activities' of the 14- party combine.

In the capital, addressing rallies at different places yesterday, four- party leaders asked the advisers to the caretaker government (CG) to maintain neutrality in performing their jobs, and to ensure announcement of the election schedule without delay.

Mirza Abbas, former minister and joint secretary general of the BNP, urged the advisers 'not to be biased to any party'.

"People will not forgive if you fail to maintain neutrality. So, you should not do or say anything that goes in favour any particular party," he told a rally at Motijheel.

Chaired by Alauddin Ali, the rally was also addressed by Jamaat- e- Islami leader Rafiqul Islam, Jubo Dal leader Abdus Salam and Shirin Sultana.

From another rally held at Tejgaon, former state minister and Jubo Dal president Barkat Ullah Bulu criticised the advisers to the CG saying, " They are busy meeting some illogical demands, which is not their duty. But they are not doing what they should as regards holding the next lection properly".

Presided over by Jalal Ahmed, local BNP and Jamaat leaders addressed the rally, followed by a procession.

Ramna thana BNP also held a rally Mouchak crossing and brought out procession led by DCC Ward Commissioner Ariful Islam Arif.

Similar programmes were held at Dholaikhal, Nayabazar, Hossain Market in Badda, Mohammadpur BRTC bus stand, Mirupur Mazar crossing, near the New Market and at many other places.
