24 students to vie for each seat

Some 24 admission seekers will vie for each seat in Dhaka University (DU) as the admission tests for first year honours courses under 2006-07 academic session begin on December 1.The test under 'Ga' unit for business studies faculty will be held on the first day. Students seeking admission to the arts faculty will sit for the test under 'Kha' unit on December 8 while 'Ka' unit test for science faculty and 'Gha' unit test for social science faculty will take place on December 15 and 22 respectively. Yesterday was the last date for submission of application forms for admission tests. The university authorities have sold 1,09,270 application forms against a total of 4,584 seats under four units. A total of 37,348 students, the highest number, have collected application forms for the 'Gha' unit. Some 25,167 forms were sold against 1,348 seats under 'Ka' unit, 20,955 forms against 2,336 seats under 'Kha' unit and 25,800 forms against 844 seats under 'Ga' unit. Excluding fourth subjects, students should have GPA 7.5 in science group, GPA 6 in humanities group and GPA 6.5 in commerce group to qualify for the admission test, according to the university's website. The admission tests will be held under MCQ system. One mark would be deducted for every four incorrect answers in 'Ga' unit while one mark would be deducted for every five incorrect answers in the other units.
