7 killed in road accidents

At least seven people were killed and 66 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Satkhira, Sirajganj and Mymensingh yesterday and on Sunday night.Our Staff correspondent adds: A retired Police Super (SP) was killed in a road accident in Ramna area in the city yesterday. A speeding staff bus knocked down MA Samad, 75, when he was crossing the road near Ramna Officers' club at around 8:00am. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but the on-duty doctors declared him dead. Family sources said Samad went out of his house after Asr prayers for a morning walk. Our Correspondent from Satkhira adds: Two cattle traders were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident on Satkhira-Khulna road at Mirzapur in Tala upazila on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam, 35, son of Shahjuddin and Tabibur Rahman, 38, son of Osman Ali of village Monoharpur Kathanda in Tala upazila. The injured were admitted to Sadar hospital. Quoting local people, police said when the victims were going to their village by the truck loaded with their cattle, it skidded and fell into the roadside ditch leaving the two dead on the spot and 15 others injured. When contacted, ASP Delowar Hossain Sayeedi confirmed the incident. Our Correspondent from Sirajganj adds: At least two people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Uttaranchal highway at Soydabad area in Sirajganj yesterday. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. Police said the accident took place at 12.00 midnight when a Hatikumrul-bound Nasimon (locally made vehicle) turned upside down on the roadside as the driver lost control over the steering. One passenger of the vehicle died on the spot while another succumbed to his on the way to hospital. Police sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was file with Jamuna Setu Pashchim Police Station. UNB from Mymensingh reports: At least three people were killed and 40 others injured in separate road accidents in Trishal upazila on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Sunday night. Police said a Mymensingh-bound passenger coach collided with a truck at Boilar area on the highway at about 12:00 midnight, leaving 40 passengers injured. Of the injured, 25 were admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College where Rana, 35, and an unidentified young man succumbed to his injuries. In another accident a truck-helper was killed on the spot and two others were critically injured when a truck hit another truck at Bogar Bazar area under the same upazila at dead of night. The injured were admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Jahangir Alam, 40, succumbed to his injuries.
