5 murdered in city


Five people including a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader were killed in separate incidents in the capital yesterday.

The dead are Shahabuddin Rana, 28, BCL Dhaka city unit joint secretary of ward-25, Rezaul Ahmed, 27, a physically challenged hotel boarder, Tapash Chandra Ghosh, 25, a factory worker, and two unidentified men.

Unknown youths stabbed Rana to death at south Banasree project area in Khilgaon around 7:00pm allegedly due to an intra-party feud, police sources said.

Police recovered the slit-throat body of Rezaul Ahmed, 27, son of Monir Ahmed of Faridpur, at a room at Shahjalal International Hotel at Ashkona around 1:30pm.

Hotel Manager Abdul Alim told the police that Rezaul, who had been staying as a boarder in the hotel since Sunday, had a man as guest in his room in the morning.

Police suspect the man who came to meet Rezaul might have killed him.

In another incident, unknown miscreants near South Jatrabari Petrol Pump stabbed Taposh to death around 4:45pm. Tapash was a mosquito-net factory worker.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 6:00pm.

Ramna police recovered an unidentified body of a 24-year-old man floating in Ramna Lake around 8:30am.

According to Dhaka Medical College morgue, the victim's neck bore marks of injury.

The morgue said the victim was strangled.

Police recovered the body of another unknown male aged around 25 at Naya Paltan area around 11:00pm. He was slaughtered as well, police said.
