6 Jubo Dal men bullet-hit in gun attack

Six Jubo Dal men were bullet-hit when gunmen opened fire on leaders and activists of BNP's youth wing Jubo Dal at Tantibazar in old part of the capital last night.

Jubo Dal blamed Awami League (AL) cadres for the attack.

The injured -- Shahed Ahmed Rana, assistant publicity secretary of Jubo Dal's Mahanagar (South) unit, Redwan Kuddus Raju, member, Dilip Babu, M Dalim, Ataur Rahman and Mizanur Rahman Chunnu -- were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) last night.

Ten to 12 AL cadres opened fire when Jubo Dal leaders and activists were coming out from an under-construction building at Basabari Lane after a meeting on National Revolution and Solidarity Day at 9:45pm, a police sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station quoted Jubo Dal leaders as saying.

The gunmen fled the scene soon after the incident, he added.

The attack was a sequel to previous conflict between the rival political activists over Jubo Dal's long domination in the area, said a local source.
