Eid Bonanza
With an end to Ramadan and the onset of Eid, it's time to unwind in front of the small screen. All the Bangla channels are offering a surfeit of entertainment ranging from special TV plays, tele-films, musical shows to magazine programmes. Whatever the medium, there's likely to be something for everyone. A rundown of the Eid-special programmes on different channels:ATN Bangla O Amar Chhele: ATN Bangla brings viewers a Bangla feature film directed by Subhash Dutta. Titled O Amar Chhele, the film will premier at 3:30pm on Eid day. The film depicts a happy couple (Sumon and Sumona) who happen to be childless. Sumon's parents put pressure on him to remarry. One day Sumona fixes an appointment with a gynaecologist. Though the doctor holds out hope, she says that Sumona will not be able to conceive in the natural way. She recommends a 'test tube baby' route. Meanwhile the family goes through a crisis. What happens next is the ultimate attraction of the movie. Written by Geetali Hasan, the film Ilias Kanchan, Poppy, Boishakhi, Sijar, Probir Mitro, Nader Chowdhury and others in the major roles. Padmaboti: A special telefilm will be telecast at 3:20pm on the third day of Eid. Directed by Bipasha Hayat and written by Tauqir Ahmed, the telefilm features Tauqir Ahmed, Bijori Barkatullah, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Rahmat Ali and others. Synopsis: Mobin, a lower middle class man, marries Padma, a beautiful girl half his age. The enigmatic Padma's idyll is interrupted by the appearance of a stranger in her dreams. This incident, recounted to Mobin, fuels his suspicion and he loses his temper with Padma. Mobin's life is thrown into turmoil though the character he despises is not real.
Channel i Rupkathar Galpo: World premiere of the feature film Rupkathar Galpo will be aired on Eid day at 2:30pm. Rupkathar Galpo is not a fairy tale as the name suggests, rather a satire on contemporary society. The movie centres on an unemployed young man, who becomes a truck driver and thereby encounters a streetwalker and her baby. The story ends in tragedy. Tauquir Ahmed, Taskin Sumi, Humayun Faridee and others perform as the central characters. Tauquir Ahmed is the director of Rupkathar Galpo. Special Guest: Written by Zulfiker Russell and directed by Kowshik Shankor Das, the play Special Guest will be aired at 4:30pm on the second day of Eid on Channel i. Jamil, a wealthy man, encounters two slum children named Pilot and Major on the day before Eid and invites them to come over to his house on Eid day. When they arrive, his daughter throws them out of the house. The play takes a dramatic turn when Jamil, angered by his daughter's behaviour, leaves his house. Aly Zaker and two child-actors Sujon and Mamun from 'Tokai Natyadol' play the lead roles. Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Ahsanul Haq Minu and Rina Rahman also star in the play.
ntv Surer Parampara: The programme highlights the Khan family that boasts illustrious musicians like Alauddin Khan and his successors from the village of Shibpur in Brahmanbaria. The Khan family has produced musicians like Fakir Aftabuddin Khan, Ustad Alauddin Khan, Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, Ustad Mir Quasem Khan, Ustad Bahadur Hossain Khan, Ustad Khadem Hossain Khan and Ustad Phuljhuri Khan (Yaar Rasul Khan). Surer Parampara traces the family's affinity for classical music; how the tradition is transmitted within the family and thus, enriches the music of the subcontinent. Almost all living members of the family have participated in the programme and some great music is in store for viewers. The programme is produced by Alfred Khokon. Surer Parampara will be aired on ntv at 11:00am on Eid day. Punorabritti: Telefilm Punorabritti, featuring Asaduzzaman Noor, Tropa Majumdar, and Intekhab Dinar, will be aired on ntv at 2:30pm on the third day of Eid. The film revolves around a popular writer who goes to a village to write a special play on Eid. He moves in an ancient house. He discovers a journal in the house and begins to read it. A series of images, events and characters begin to emerge. The author of the diary wanted to be famous but failed in this endeavour. He appears before the writer repeatedly and comments on a range of issues. The telefilm is written by Pantho Shahriar and directed by Animesh Aich.
Channel 1 Antor Bajao: Hosted by singer Arnob, the musical programme features classic tunes of legendary folk artistes. Arif Dewan sings Amar mon jenechhey of Kobiyal Bijoy Sarkar and Shonogo ruposhi of Kanai Lal Sheel. Sumi Shabnam performs Ami kulhara kolonkini of Baul Shah Abdul Karim and Baul Abdul Khalek renders a popular song of Baul Jalauddin. Antor Bajao will be aired on October 26 at 6:00pm. Poncho Kobir Gaan: Songs of Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Atul Prasad Sen, DL Roy and Rajnikant Sen (known collectively as 'Poncho Kobir Gaan') brought about revolutionary changes in Bangla music. Poncho Kobir Gaan, to be aired on Oct 26 at 9:30pm, features five leading artistes of the country rendering some of these classics. The USP of the show is that the audience will get to see and hear the artistes -- Nakib Khan, Kumar Biswajit, Shakila Zafar, Fahmida Nabi and Shafin Ahmed -- perform songs of genres that they are rarely associated with.
Banglavision Shourabh: Humayum Ahmed's tragicomedy Shourabh features the urge of a childless couple to have offspring. Kuddus and his wife are not blessed with a child so they provide succour to some orphans. However, the envious chairman of the village files a case against the couple and terms them child-traffickers. Finally the couple have a child and live happily. Shourabh is directed by Humayun Ahmed. Amirul Haque Choudhury, Shamima Naznin and others are the major cast members of the play. Shourabh will be aired at 8:00pm on the second day of Eid. Hotath Ajmal Hossain: The family-drama revolves around Ajmal Hossain struggling to fulfil all the demands of his family, which makes him a little shaky and insecure. One day he disappears. After a few years he returns to his family. He has undergone a metamorphosis and emerges as a confident and bold man. Through the transformation of Ajmal, Harun-ur Rashid's play features the necessity of being strong and unwavering to keep a family going. The play is directed by Shahiduzzaman Selim. Mamunur Rashid, Leena Ahmed, Farah Ruma, Apurba and Azra are the major cast members of the play. The play will be aired at 9:15pm on the second day of the Eid.
Rtv Panam Nagarir Adventure: Children's play Panam Nagarir Adventure will be aired on Rtv at 11:30am on the second day of Eid. The plot: To celebrate good results of some children in a recent exam, parents arrange a cultural programme. The young ones sing and dance at the event; some appear in different guises. Impressed by the show, one of the parents declares his intention to provide necessities for a trek during the next school vacation. Gaan Mama is to accompany them on the trip. The children set out for the adventure on time. The journey is full of suspense. At night they pitch their tents under the open sky. They sing and dance around the campfire. The play reaches its climax when they discover a treasure chest. The play is written and directed by Khalid Mahmud Mithu.
