Earlier on September 10, Hannan was shown arrested in the case and placed on an eight-day remand for interrogation.

On September 19, he was shown arrested in connection with the bomb blasts at the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) rally at Paltan on January 20, 2001, and placed on a 14-day remand in two phases.

Moreover, Hannan's brother Mohibullah alias Mofizur Rahman, also a HuJi member, and his accomplice Azahar alias Mamun were also shown arrested in the Ramna Batamul blast case. Both were interrogated, taking on remand.

On completion of Hannan's ten days' remand in the CPB rally blast case, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with the help of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Dhaka on Thursday.

In the forwarding report, Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP) of CID Syed Momen Hossain, also the IO of the case, said the information gathered from Hannan about the blasts was being verified. So, he should be put into custody until the investigation completes, the IO said.

On the other hand, CID Inspector Abu Hena Mohammad Yusuf, also the IO of Ramna bomb blast case, prayed for a seven-day fresh remand, saying that the information gathered earlier from Hannan about the blasts was being verified. So, he needs to be interrogated to find out more clues to the blasts.

Hannan told the court that he was earlier placed on a 120-day remand in connection with the August 17 bomb blast cases filed with different police stations in the city. So, he appealed for rejecting his remand prayer. No lawyer stood for Hannan.

After the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shamsul Alam granted a five-day remand.

Meantime, two HuJi members--Hafez Naim Ahmed alias Arif and Badrul Alam-- arrested in connection with the bomb attack on British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury were also shown arrested in the Ramna Batamul bomb blast case. The court fixed October 16 for hearing on the petition, seeking a 10-day remand for the two.

Ten people died and several others were injured on April 14, 2001 when bombs went off at Ramna Batamul.

On June 14, 2001, one of the arrestees, Maulana Akbar Hussain, gave a confessional statement to a metropolitan magistrate and disclosed names of Mufti Hannan and others involved in the blasts.
