This is the third time a docu-mentary film produced by ATN Bangla has been nominated to participate at the Interna-tional Emmy Award, which will be announced on November 20 in New York. This year the documentary going to the Emmys is An Elegy for Dipu, directed by Fahmida Wadud Chaity.Earlier, An Elegy for Dipu won this year's ICDB (International Children's Day of Broadcasting) Award, which is jointly announced by UNICEF and International Academy of Television Arts and Science. The documentary focuses on the issue of child abuse at schools. Dipu, a primary school student, is physically abused by the class teacher for not completing his homework. This causes tremendous mental agony and fear on the tender mind. The psychological imbalance causes physical illness and eventually the young one dies. To make the documentary informative as well as interesting, an imaginary sequence has been created where the deceased child is shown in heaven, playing with other children. He narrates his tragic story and the children appeal to the adults not to treat them with such cruelty and unkindness. ATN Bangla chairman Mahfuzur Rahman informed, "We won the prestigious Emmy Award in 2004. We competed at the 33rd Emmy Award last year as well. This year we hope to win the award again."
